A March 27th yearling by Empire Stud's 3rd year stallion SILVER WAGON (by Wagon Limit), brought a final bid of $32,000 from Beaufort Farm, LLC at Thursday's session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. Hip 1159, a colt out of Unbridled Cyclone (by Judge T C), was consigned by John Stuart & Peter Bance's Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services, Inc.
Having only been the 2nd foal or short yearling by the stallion to enter the public auction ring, the gray/roan colt more than tripled Session 4's yearling average of just over $10,000.
"In a market where unproven horses, sires and unbroken foals alike, are a 'tough sell,' a solid price like this shows the potential of this talented racehorse as a sire. The breeders who bred to him in KY have clamored to continue their support of the horse in NY, and the more his progeny are offered in public auctions, the better he will be received - they just look the part," says Empire Stud's President, Jamie LaMonica. Silver Wagon will stand his 2nd year in NY at Empire Stud for a private fee in 2010.
Empire Stud is hosting its annual Stallion Show & Open House this Saturday, January 16th from 10 AM - 4 PM. Lunch will be served from 11 - 2. Drawings will be held for door prizes and free seasons to some of the stallions. For more information, call (859) 231-0471 or visit www.empirestud.com.
