Alan Porter Mating Analysis for Frost Giant

Frost Giant is a group winner at two on turf, and a grade one winner on dirt. By Storm Cat's leading stallion son, Giant's Causeway, he is out of a three-parts-sister to multiple grade one sire, Mutukddim. He's also from the same sire producing family of the La Troienne family as Private Account, Woodman and Not For Love.

Frost Giant is out of a Mr. Prospector line mare, but he should appreciate crossing back over mares from that same male line, especially since Giant's Causeway himself has already sired 23 stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares. We can note that Giant's Causeway already has stakes winners out of mares by Seeking the Gold, Miswaki, Kingmambo, Forty Niner, Fappiano (through Defensive Play, and through Ride the Rails, a son of Cryptoclearance), Machiavellian, Crafty Prospector, Lycius, Jade Hunter, Thunder Gulch, Hansel (by Woodman). Any mares carrying Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer crosses should have appeal, and Woodman, Not For Love, Rhythm and Mutakddim, all give line breeding to Frost Giant's family.

In addition to Mr. Prospector, Storm Cat and his sons have enjoyed considerable success with mares from other branches of the Raise a Native line, particularly Alydar and Exclusive Native (who should be particularly good through Affirmed). Giant's Causeway also has stakes winners out of mares descending from by Raise a Native through Majestic Light and Banner Sport. We can also note that with limited opportunities, there have already been four black-type winners, two group/graded by Storm Cat and his sons out of mares descending from Raise a Native's sire, Native Dancer via Sharpen Up (best represented in the U.S. by Diesis), who gives linebreeding to the family of Frost Giant's broodmare sire, Gone West.

Storm Cat and his sons have enjoyed success with mares descending from several different branches of the Ribot line, and Giant's Causeway already has a stakes winner out of a mare by Alleged (by Hoist the Flag, by Tom Rolfe), and should also do well Pleasant Colony, who is by Ribot's son, His Majesty. This also suggests mares descending from Graustark, a brother to His Majesty.

Crossed back over the Northern Dancer line, Giant's Causeway has sired grade one winner First Samurai (dam by Dixieland Band); grade one winner Juste Memomente (out of a mare by Danehill, a son of Danzig); Queen's Plate winner, Mike Fox, out of a mare by Alzao (by Lyphard) and stakes winners out of mares by Theatrical and Nureyev (by Nureyev) and Priolo (by Sovereign Dancer).

Giant's Causeway also has stakes winners out of mares by Seattle Slew (and his son Capote), and would be good here through A.P. Indy and sons, and Slew o' Gold. Storm Cat has generally crossed well with Damascus, and from this line there is a stakes winner by Giant's Causeway out of a mare by Time For A Change. Frost Giant should also work well with Damascus through Private Account and his sons. Other broodmare sire lines that have provide stakes winners for Giant's Causeway include Olympio (by Naskra); Lord at War; Bertrando (from the Relaunch branch of In Reality, a sire line that might also work well through Known Fact); Halo (who would be particularly interesting through Saint Ballado and Devil's Bag); Lord a War; and Buckaroo (by Buckpasser).
